James works with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual, couples, and family therapy. From small private practices to large psychiatric treatment institutions like Rogers Memorial Hospital, he has cultivated experience working with diverse clientele in a variety of treatment settings and has lead therapy groups focused on trauma, anger management, personality disorders, depression, and anxiety. James graduated with his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with concentrations in behavioral and physical health and trauma therapy. He has provided consultation for programming revision in the areas of trauma and personality disorders and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Waukesha. James’ eclectic approach to therapy draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, depth psychology, dialectical behavior therapy, positive psychology, and solution focused therapy. In 2007, he traveled to southern India to study coping strategies used by survivors of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Always amazed by resiliency of the human spirit, James employs a strength-based approach that looks at all behaviors as adaptive and seeks to avoid judgmental attitudes that prevent greater understanding, a requisite for sustainable positive change.
